Animals Around the World Benefit from Selfies

OCTOBER 2, 2015 – BOSTON, MA –World Animal Day, celebrated worldwide on October 4, is a time where all animal life is celebrated as events are planned around the globe. Nature Watch Foundation and FOUR PAWS International are spreading the word and collecting momentum with one easy way to get involved: World Animal Day Global Wave.

The World Animal Day Global Wave calls on any and all animal lovers to show their support through selfies with the downloadable posters and by using the hashtag #worldanimalday.

World Animal Day was started in 1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. October 4 was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. More recently, World Animal Day has become a day for remembering and paying tribute to all animals and the people who love and respect them. It's celebrated in different ways in every country, with no regard to nationality, religion, faith or political ideology.

In celebration of World Animal Day, a huge variety of inspiring events are held each year in an increasing number of countries, with no regard to nationality, religion, faith or political ideology. Events are organized under the World Animal Day umbrella by being publicized on www.worldanimalday.org.uk and advertised using the World Animal Day brand and logo.

World Animal Day successfully unites the animal welfare movement, mobilizing it into a global force for change. World Animal Day has already brought about a significant and lasting contribution towards advancing animal welfare standards, and its influence will only continue to grow.
