Gjina is one of many “restaurant bears” in Albania. Three years ago, her owner bought her from a farmer. Gjina has lived in a tiny cage ever since outside a restaurant, her space limited to 13 by 6.5 feet. She has no protection from sun, wind or rain. The female bear was forced to drink up to 20 beer a day to calm her down.

But this desperate life will be over soon ...
Last month, a FOUR PAWS team was on site to prepare the rescue plans for Gjina.
The female bear was medically treated, vaccinated and chipped. As soon as all papers for the transfer of ownership are ready, she will be transported to our BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina in Kosovo. Together with with bears Tomi and Pashuk, who we also rescued from horrible conditions, she can finally enjoy appropriate surroundings.
