Vietnamese government agrees to plan to end bear farming: FOUR PAWS stays cautious

On July 19th, it was announced that the Vietnamese government had agreed to a plan to finally end bear farming. There is no doubt that this is great news, and an extremely commendable step for the Vietnamese government to have taken. However, given that a similar commitment was made 12 years ago back in 2005, it is also wise to exercise a reasonable level of caution regarding these new promises. It is for this reason that FOUR PAWS will continue to campaign on this topic, keeping the pressure on the Vietnamese government to fulfill its pledge to end bear farming.

In addition to this, FOUR PAWS will be calling on the Vietnamese government to increase its monitoring and enforcement efforts in this regard. These actions will help to alleviate the suffering of bears and help us to determine the exact number of bears on farms in Vietnam.

FOUR PAWS is very close to playing a huge role in this operation, currently awaiting permits from the Vietnamese government before we can begin rescuing bile bears in order to bring them to our new sanctuary in the Ninh Binh province.

It is our hope that we’ll soon realize our dream of rescuing these bears, and we will continue our fight until we see the Vietnamese government make true on its promises to end bear farming.
