Fun facts: Was an All American Rugby player at Vassar College. While I have long since retired from the bruises of rugby, I now spend my free time volunteering for a parrot sanctuary and travel annually to Guyana to help protect the last surviving Sun Parakeets in the wild. I have 2 very large rescue dogs at home who do not appreciate our doorbell, and we live in a tiny house overflowing with exotic plants.
Melanie LaryResearch and Campaigns Officer
Education: Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, M.S. in Animals and Public Policy; Skidmore College, B.A. in Biology
Main Function: In charge of research, programs, and campaigns for FOUR PAWS USA; work on international campaigns, providing the U.S. perspective and national information, while further engaging in U.S. topics and issues relating to our FOUR PAWS mission and overall work. I also oversee all import requirements to ensure animals rescued from the dog and cat meat trade in Southeast Asia can safely enter the U.S. to find new homes.
Fun Facts: Originally from TX and live in MA with my fiancé Matt and rescued cat Sophie; grew up with lots of animals like Arabian and miniature horses, chickens, fish, cats, and dogs; love to hike, bird watch, travel, and relax at home with my loved ones.
Claire LaFranceCommunications Director / Head of Communications
Education: Wheaton College, MA. Studied Political Science.
Main Function: Manage media relations and develop relationships with media members, influencers, and community leaders. Lead all digital communications through multiple channels including website and social.
Fun Facts: Writer, mom, traveler and reader. In downtime, volunteers as a certified Therapy Dog team with dog Ruffy visiting nursing homes, hospice facilities, hospitals and schools bringing some puppy love to those who need it the most!
Ren BettencourtDigital Communications Coordinator
Education: Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, M.S. in Animals and Public Policy; Simmons College, M.A. in Teaching; University of New Hampshire, B.A. in English
Main Function: Manage our social media channels and digital communications for our US office.
Fun Facts: Has published research on public attitudes towards seals and have created several stop motion animated videos about the history and importance of seals in the oceanic ecosystem. As a lifelong animal lover, and inspired by a rescued dog named Tamer, a deeper interest in the animal welfare movement was sparked early. Adores all of our rescued animals at FOUR PAWS, and I have a particular soft spot for our rescued bears.
Keira HaleyDirector of Development / Head of Fundraising
Education: University of New Haven, M.B.A.; Gettysburg College, B.A. in Sociology and Women’s Studies
Main Function: Provide strategic leadership for the FOUR PAWS philanthropy program (i.e. do everything in my power to support all aspects of our rescue missions, sanctuary operations, and investigative work across the globe through philanthropic engagement with our extraordinary and generous supporters)
Fun Facts: Avid movie watcher. Coffee enthusiast. Enjoys floral arranging, gardening, and hikes with family. Mommy to Grant and Ro who run their own animal rescue operation from our playroom - complete with stuffed animals and ‘Magna Tiles’ transport trucks. Shares an office with a 10 pound mini-schnauzer, Sniddy, who calls the shots.
Daphne DatemaSenior Digital Fundraiser
Education: University of Amsterdam, MA in Media Studies
Main Function: Generating online donations through digital engagement funnels.
Fun Facts: Lives in the Netherlands together with a rescue sweetheart cat, Evi. Enjoys new places and meeting new people/dog friends. Next to that, also an astrologer. What’s your sign? 😉

Main Function: Engaging Founder Society members in our mission
Fun Facts: Has a rescued dog named Fletcher who is learning to “sing” along with Jen and her husband to various songs, such as Happy Birthday and Who Let the Dogs Out. Lives in Columbus Ohio and loves to ski, hike, camp, and road trip.

Main Function: Manage the monthly donor program The Pride Society and Create/Manage the Direct Mail program
Fun facts: Artist – love drawing animals, Avid black and white film photographer, Movie Buff, Sci-Fi reader and TV show extraordinaire, knower of interesting animal facts, worked as a vet assistant, worked with variety of animal’s wolves, lions, elephants, and horses. Pink is my favorite color and love Mythology.
