Brands against Mulesing

Around the world, fashion brands are stepping up to help end the cruel mutilation of merino lambs

9/7/2021

All brands listed below have highlighted their opposition to mulesing, a painful mutilation practiced solely in Australia on merino lambs. Mulesing is carried out as a quick and cheap way to prevent a condition called flystrike. However, with viable pain-free solutions to flystrike in existence, mulesing is not only unnecessary, it is cruel.

Many of the brands on this list are taking additional steps to help improve transparency within their wool supply chains, and we commend them for doing so. While we’re thrilled with the progress being made, it's vital more brands join this movement, so that together we can end mulesing and achieve a kinder fashion future.

Check out the list below to see what stance your favorite brand has when it comes to mulesed wool!

Status 09/2021

Explanation of the two categories:

Position against mulesing: Brands in this category have either: a position against mulesing, expressed their opposition to the practice, or stated their concern and/or desire to move away from mulesed wool on their website or within their animal welfare policy. This position must be published online and available to the public. FOUR PAWS was unable to locate a published, time bound commitment to phase out mulesed wool, alongside clear objectives around certification by these brands.

Strong measures to phase out mulesed wool: Brands in this category have published a timebound public commitment, setting a percentage goal to transition away from mulesed wool (e.g. on their website, within their animal welfare policy, and /or their buying guidelines). These brands have also stated their use of robust certification systems or aims with regards to achieving a certified supply chain, using traceability and transparency systems ideally comparable to the Responsible Wool Standard (e.g.: 100% RWS by 2022).

Do you know of a brand with a stance against mulesing that is not listed here, please contact us via wearitkind@four-paws.org and we will add it to this list.

Together, we can end mulesing and achieve a more ethical and kinder fashion future!
